Have you ever found yourself forgetting to keep your skin healthy while traveling? Or even if you maintain your skincare routine despite those long car rides, plane flights, trips to the beach, and hotel stays, you notice that you’re still getting hit with a few annoying breakouts and dry or oily skin? Don’t worry; you’re not alone. Traveling is both exciting and stressful. As a result, these feelings, along with different climates and strange schedules, can negatively affect your skin.
Even though the holidays are over, many of us still travel throughout the spring and into the summer months — even if it’s just a long weekend away with the family. Your friends at Live Young Wellness Spa in Flower Mound and Castle Hills want you to be as prepared as possible, so we’ve compiled a list of tips to keep your skin healthy while traveling.
Maintain your usual routine as much as possible
It’s easier than you think to simply fall off the skincare wagon when you’re traveling. Perhaps you didn’t pack all of your normal essentials, or you’re so busy having fun in the sun that you aren’t staying as consistent as you normally would. Maintaining your normal routine will help you avoid many of the pitfalls above. The easiest way to do this is to grab travel-size versions of your favorite products — especially if you’re going on a plane or simply need to pack as light as possible.
Remember that humidity is lower on plane flights
Believe it or not, long plane rides can quickly dehydrate your skin. This is because of the low humidity typically found in plane cabins, which can lead to all types of skin issues that you never anticipated going into your trip. A few suggestions are to avoid touching your face while on the flight and stay hydrated by drinking lots of water rather than coffee, alcohol, and sodas. Also, keep your skin moisturized and lips protected with your favorite creams and moisturizers.
Don’t wear too much makeup
This may seem like blasphemy, but wearing too much makeup while you’re traveling can dry out your skin and cause everything from cracking on your skin to chapped lips. If you must wear lipstick, apply a moisturizing lip balm first. If you’re interested, you can shop our skincare products here so that you’re ready to go before your trip. We offer the best moisturizing products from medical-grade brands.
Wear sunscreen
While applying sunscreen year-round may sound like overkill, it’s the right thing to do to keep your skin looking younger, smoother, and healthier. We urge you not to underestimate the benefits sunscreen has as a preventative healthcare habit. Even if your skin isn’t in any kind of danger of getting cooked, wearing sunscreen is a great habit to get into. And there are plenty of products — right here in our office — that really work.
If you haven’t had any luck with sunscreen in the past, or you’re looking to start a habit of wearing it, please consider the top-tier sunscreens and brands we offer here at Live Young Wellness Spa, such as Epionce, ELTA MD, and more.
