As a Physician Assistant and aesthetic injector, one of the questions I get asked the most is: “What do you do for your own skin?”
I’m in the treatment room every day helping patients look and feel their best, but I’m also just like you—wanting to age gracefully, keep my skin clear and smooth, and feel confident in my routine. So, in this blog post, I’m sharing my non-negotiables—the four core things I consistently do for my own skin and recommend to every patient who wants healthy, glowing, beautiful skin.
#1 SPF – Every. Single. Day.
If you’re not wearing sunscreen daily, you’re doing it wrong. SPF is your skin’s defense against sun damage, premature aging, and, of course, skin cancer.
Rain or shine, sunscreen should be part of your routine every single day. Especially if you’re investing in skin treatments like BBL, MOXI, or microneedling, protect that investment. Without SPF, you’re not only putting your skin at risk, but you’re also undoing the work you’ve put in.
#2 Microneedling – The Collagen Game-Changer
Microneedling is one of my absolute favorite treatments. Why? Because it’s a powerhouse when it comes to building collagen, improving texture, tightening pores, and fading pigmentation.
I typically recommend 2–3 treatments a year for maintenance, and more frequent sessions if we’re targeting acne scarring or static fine lines and wrinkles. It’s one of the best things you can do for long-term skin rejuvenation.
#3 Neurotoxin – Prevent & Perfect
Whether it’s Botox, Dysport, or another brand, neurotoxin is a major player in both preventing and correcting fine lines and wrinkles.
Neurotoxin works by relaxing the muscles that cause those expression lines, which keeps your skin looking smooth and fresh, and it can even help lift certain areas. When we start early, we prevent deeper lines from forming, which means fewer corrective treatments in the future. Most people need touch-ups every 3 to 4 months to maintain results.
#4 Retinol – The Gold Standard in Skincare
Retinol is one of the most studied, proven ingredients in skincare—and for good reason. I initially started using it for acne, but I quickly saw all the added benefits: increased cell turnover, faded pigmentation, smoother texture, fewer breakouts, and softer fine lines and wrinkles. It only takes a small amount to make a big impact. Retinol is truly a long-term investment in your skin.
