Lip flips and lip filler have been the current rage for everyone- especially on social media. But what’s the difference between the two and which is right for you? In this blog, we will explore the differences between these two popular treatments so that you can decide which is right for you. Both procedures can give you fuller-looking lips. However, there are some key differences between the two that you should be aware of before deciding.
Lip Flip
A lip flip procedure is done with Botulinum Toxin, while lip filler is done with dermal fillers such as hyaluronic acid. A lip flip will make your lips fuller without adding additional volume. The results are subtle that will last about three months. A lip flip is a quick procedure that can be done in just a few minutes and requires no downtime. Typically, most patients only require 4-6 units of toxin so a lip flip is relatively more affordable compared to lip filler. It is perfect if you are on a budget. You can start to notice the results in about 14 days once the toxin kicks in. The toxin is injected into the upper lip (orbicularis oris muscle) causing the lip to “flip” upwards and appear fuller. This treatment is perfect if you have a gummy smile because it relaxes your muscles when you smile, resulting in less gum showing. If you have very thin lips, then a lip flip may not be ideal for you. However, some injectors may recommend getting a lip flip after your lip filler to enhance your lip results.
Lip Filler
Lip filler is still a pretty quick treatment but it involves a little bit more work. Your injector will use a needle to inject the filler into all or necessary areas of your lips. A numbing cream is also applied to the lips before the injections to help with the discomfort. You may experience swelling or bruising after the procedure. Results typically last from 6 to 8 months but it also depends on the patient. Some patients may metabolize the dermal filler faster than others. You will get volume with lip filler whereas you won’t get any added volume with a lip flip
How Do I Choose Between Lip Flip and Lip Fillers?
A lip flip is a great option if you’re looking for a subtle change to your smile but aren’t ready to commit to filler. It is also a great option if you don’t want to break the bank. A lip flip is great for those who want to prevent their upper lip from disappearing when they smile. If you are looking for a more dramatic change and more volume to your lips, then lip filler is the way to go. It will give you a more dramatic transformation with longer-lasting results. Fillers are great for those who want to change the shape and volume of their lips.
