If you’re looking to improve your appearance and look younger without surgery, Botox is unequivocally the answer to your anti-aging prayers. But what most Botox fans don’t realize is how versatile this non-invasive injectable really is.
Sure, Botox safely and effectively relaxes facial muscles that create all of those pesky fine lines and wrinkles that keep staring back at you in the mirror. It’s also great for fixing droopy eyebrows, hooded eyes, frozen faces, and a variety of more serious health challenges that come with aging.
Throughout its rich history, Botox has been called on to treat:
- Underarm sweating
- Crow’s feet
- Migraines
- Overactive bladder
- Eye twitching and eye conditions
- Muscle spasms
- Drooling
- Neck pain
Clearly, Botox is so much more than a cosmetic solution. But how can this be? Read more to find out.
The fascinating origins of Botox
Here’s a fun fact: Botulinum toxin (Botox) stems from a neurotoxin protein sometimes found in soil and causes a rare poisoning condition known as botulism that leads to paralysis and facial weakness. While that definitely sounds scary, scientists and researchers were intrigued by its ability to actually heal. By the 1970s, Botox was introduced into the medical world as an experimental treatment for many of the ailments listed above, including crossed eyes.
In treating this condition, they noticed it also weakened forehead muscles between the eyebrows and above the nose. By carefully targeting specific muscle groups, researchers surmised that Botox could slow down the aging process. With regular or biannual Botox injections, you are less likely to create patterns of wear and tear on your face over time.
By the late 1980s, Botox was approved for medical uses. It was FDA approved for cosmetic uses in 2002.
Botox! You’ve come a long way, baby!
When Botox is injected into the forehead, around the eyes, or other areas for cosmetic use, the result should be a reduction in the appearance of wrinkles and other fine lines. This gives us the youthful appearance we all want, and new patients are lining up every day to see how it can help them. Botox is currently the No. 1 non-surgical procedure for women nationwide, and when performed by the right professional, they really do work!
