At Live Young Wellness Spa, we believe through sharing our skin care advice we can educate individuals on the meaning behind “skin health” and further share aspects that will help in overall skin care maintenance. As spring and summer bring hot sunny days it’s important to know tips for sun protection. Since sun damage is a common concern as we enter the warmer seasons, we thought we would specifically dive into this topic. There are many ways you can shield your skin from the sun effortlessly, it’s just a matter of forming a routine. Let’s further discuss some ideas you can keep in mind as you start spending long days outside in the sun.
Applying Sunscreen Daily
For those who struggle to apply sunscreen consistently, you must become routine with it as you spend more of your time soaking up the sun. One of the easiest ways to protect your skin from UV damage is by wearing sunscreen daily. It may feel good to lather on tanning oil and ditch the SPF in the moment, but your older self will come to regret it. Sun damage rapidly increases the appearance of aging, which is harder to reverse down the road, so we recommend taking preventive action now. Not to mention, sunscreen will play a huge role in preventing skin cancer as well. While applying sunscreen might not be your favorite thing to do, we can promise you it’s worth it in the long run.
Wearing Protective Accessories & Clothing
As you start cleaning out your closet and purchasing new spring and summer essentials don’t forget about accessories and trendy pool cover-ups! While accessorizing is trendy it’s also the perfect way to shield your skin from the direct sunlight. If you were looking for a reason to go shopping for a new pair of sunglasses and a cute hat, we just gave you one! Wearing sunglasses while you’re out and about will help protect your eyes from the sun’s UV radiation, which can prevent permanent eye damage. Also, if you can remember to throw on a hat for sunny days at the pool it will add another component of sun protection as well. As for pool-cover ups you can be creative, but a casual dress or anything that you can wear over your swimsuit will help block the sun. We recommend finding accessories and clothing that make you feel confident and comfortable while adding effortless sun protection.
Finding & Creating Shade
As the summer heat intensifies you will most likely find yourself enjoying a pool day or a vacation weekend spent outdoors. Another way you can easily take precautions from the harsh UV rays is by creating or finding shade. If you are planning on going somewhere that doesn’t have any natural shade, come prepared with an umbrella so shade is accessible. Many of us are guilty of laying out all day and never moving out of the sun. It’s a good idea to take breaks from being in the sun entirely because shade is an even more powerful method of skin cancer prevention. Be intentional this spring and summer through properly prepping for your upcoming activities!
