Regaining self-confidence after pregnancy can be difficult. A woman’s body goes through so many changes during pregnancy, physically, emotionally, and hormonally. These changes can take a toll on mothers and restoring your pre-pregnancy body can be challenging. After the birth of their child, many women feel uncomfortable with their bodies and want to improve their appearance. If you have decided to get a Mommy Makeover, this is a very exciting time for you! After childbearing, nursing, and putting others before you, you will finally be able to reclaim your old self! Although this can be a very exciting time for patients, you may be thinking about what your scars will look like after having your Mommy Makeover, we are here to answer all of your questions.
What Is a Mommy Makeover?
A Mommy Makeover consists of a combination of plastic surgery procedures designed to give mothers their pre-pregnancy bodies back. Mommy Makeovers usually include:
- A breast procedure (Breast lift and/or breast augmentation)
- A tummy tuck
- Liposuction
Breast Scars
Many women choose to have a Mommy Makeover hoping to improve the appearance of their breasts. Which usually have begun to droop or lose their perky shape after pregnancy. A breast lift is a common component of the Mommy Makeover and it might also combine breast implants to help restore lost breast volume. A breast lift incision will need to surround the areola (the dark ring around the nipple) and extend downwards to or into the breast crease. Breast implants can also be placed within these same incisions.
Tummy Tuck Scars
The incision for an abdominoplasty is usually horizontal and placed from hip to hip near the pubic line. When Dr. Sanderson makes a tummy tuck incision, he goes as low as possible so the scar can be hidden with underwear or a low-rise bikini bottom.
Liposuction Scars
Liposuction scars are minimal, about a quarter of an inch long- just small enough so that Dr. Sanderson can insert the liposuction cannula used to break up and remove fat cells. When removing fat from the abdomen, the tummy tuck incision can usually be used however if you are having liposuction in your hips, lower back, or other areas, a few small incisions may be needed. Small scars will be visible although they are typically unnoticeable once they heal and change colors from an initial pinkish scar to your natural skin tone.
