Who doesn’t love at-home spa days with our friends and kids?! Of course, you can always have a spa day at home whether it’s a relaxing facial, mani-pedis, or even just a nice hot bath. Several products on the market claim to have the same effects as medical spa-grade equipment. Today, we are going to talk about treatments that should be left to professionals and not done at home.
Blackhead/Cyst Extractions
Have a stubborn blackhead or cyst that is driving you insane? Although it’s tempting to want to extract it however it is best to wait before doing so yourself. No matter how many episodes of Dr. Pimple Popper you’ve seen. You need to be extremely careful when trying to do extractions at home because it can lead to more inflammation and may lead to an infection if performed incorrectly in an unhygienic manner.
Chemical Peels
We never recommend anyone to try chemical peels at home because it removes the outer layer of skin during the process. We always recommend starting on the lower side percentage-wise when it comes to chemical peels to help prevent anything bad or harmful to the skin. Some chemical peels are safe to use since they have a low concentration but most people will purchase peels that are way too strong online. Others also tend to go online and purchase the actual acids and try to do it at home by watching a video tutorial. Please please please do not try this at home, you run the risk of burning your skin and that’s not good for anyone.
Dermaplaning
Dermaplaning has become a popular at-home trend over the past couple of years. It is the process of using a fine razor blade to the face to slough dead skin and peach fuzz off the face. It requires skill and experience to avoid any superficial cuts and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. For best results and a lower risk of superficial abrasions, go to a trained professional for this treatment.
Microneedling
There are many at-home microneedling tools and kits due to the treatment’s popularity over the past few years. But that doesn’t mean that you should be using them at home. Microneedling kits and tools can cause scarring and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. We always recommend having the treatment done by a professional. There are many possibilities where doing this treatment at home can easily go wrong. The devices used at medical spas are more precise and provide safer results when done correctly by a professional.
Laser Hair Removal
There are at-home laser home removal kits that you can purchase online. We do not recommend trying laser hair removal at home because you know- it’s a laser. Since they are at-home devices, they will not be as strong or powerful since they are made for amateurs to use at home. Less power means less effectiveness. No matter how often you use the device, you might never achieve total hairlessness. It is also harder to cover a lot of territories- such as a whole leg- with the small at-home devices. Another drawback to at–home laser hair removal is that the tools only work on a narrow range of hair and skin colors. Professional laser hair removal gives you a bigger bang for your buck. We even have laser hair removal memberships here at Live Young Wellness Spa.
You can always treat yourself and have self-care days at home. We just highly recommend keeping it simple and don’t try professional spa treatments at home by yourself. Our professionals are professionals for a reason.
