Some treatments may not be ideal during the summertime because of the hot sunny weather and sun exposure. One treatment that is perfect for your summer plans is microneedling. Now what the heck is microneedling? Microneedling is a treatment that uses a tool (micro needle) that creates invisible, vertical, micro perforations into the top layer of your skin. This causes your body to perform and activate the natural healing process and increases blood flow while producing new collagen and elastin to the area. Many patients state that this procedure has little to no pain so nothing too painful or extreme. The treatment roughly takes about 30 minutes. The good thing about this treatment is that there is not a lot of downtime afterwards. After your treatment, you can jump right back into your normal routine. When you come in for your treatment, you can always ask your provider about sun exposure limits and other questions you may have.
Why microneedling?
Microneedling can reduce wrinkles and fine lines. As we age, we start to lose collagen and elasticity to our skin which can cause thin, sagging skin and facial wrinkles. This treatment stimulates the production of natural elastin and collagen giving the skin an overall tightening to the skin which can reveal firmer-looking skin. It can also help fade acne scarring. When your body has scars, it undergoes a process called fibrosis. Fibrosis makes everything stick together beneath the skin like glue. The glue is so strong that it pulls the skin down resulting in scarring. Microneedling treatments help by breaking up that glue and fibrosis underneath the skin allowing the skin to ‘let go’ of the scarring area giving your skin a smoother surface. This treatment also helps by shrinking pore size and oil production. You will begin to notice your pores getting smaller in size a few weeks after the procedure due to the healing effects. Smaller pores will result in less oil production which can help prevent future breakouts and blackheads.
